YES I WILL!!!

No Day But Today…

Today was inventory day, albeit it was somewhat slow going since yours truly is currently working with one arm, but that’s another story for another time. At any rate, my trusty Affairs Czar, Jasmin did the heavy lifting and as we were sorting through the piles of props, wigs, and costumes; I began to think about the many excuses that were racing through my mind as to why we shouldn’t do inventory today. Everything from, “my arm hurts,” to, “it’s almost dinner time,” scrolled through my mind. In the end, it was best that we push forward and do what we needed to do instead of taking heed of those excuses and never achieving our goal because we were waiting for a more ideal situation.

In comparison, there are many things in life that we push to the side and put off for a later date with every intention to get back to them, but often never do because the ideal situations that we wait for never truly arrive. Why am I talking about this in an artist’s blog? It’s because I want to tell everyone that there is no better day to sign up for their sessions than today! Let us not have waiting for those ideal conditions keep us from doing what we want; whatever those things may be!

Many people have come to me expressing their desires to book sessions, but either want to wait or are too nervous for various reasons. While posing in front of a camera can seem daunting, we take measures to ensure that everyone is comfortable in front of and around the camera. We will work together not only to ensure that you get great pictures, but also so that your entire experience with Ruby Spring as a whole is an unforgettable one!

Happy New Year

Here we go again...

It's 2012 and most of us are still basking in the warm glow of the New Year's potential. It's so stock full of possibilities that we very often over do it with Resolutions that we half mean to keep, but forget in two weeks time! As I was putting away the gift bows and my black Christmas tree, I began thinking about a particular project that Ruby Spring will soon be working on this year. Sometimes I love the planning stages as much as the actual shoot itself because figuring out the logistics, while often tricky, can be fun and creatively stretching. As we get to work on more and more of these projects, and as J and I get to tackle on bigger shoots, it's certainly been an adventure! At any rate, as we march head first into this new year, let us all not make promises that we will forget to keep. Instead, let us set goals that are not only realistic and attainable, but are also goals that bring us into a different place so that we do not grow complacent or stagnant; whether in our art or in our personal lives.

Christmastime is Here…

Merry Christmas from Ruby Spring Photography!!! The time has come yet again for reflection upon this past year as most of us are in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the holiday season. As always, I find myself ever grateful for the continued support of loved ones and am ever humbled by such an outpouring of dedication and enthusiasm that Ruby Spring continues to have with each endeavor. I want to thank everyone that has supported us this year; whether by commissioning a painting, purchasing a work of art or print, or by booking a photo session with us! It is by supporting us through these outlets that we are able to work on projects such as the, “Absolutions,” undertaking that has been such a personal journey and has been the biggest work that myself and my crew has done to date! We have been fortunate to find ourselves working and doing something that we truly believe in. For this and so much more, we thank you!

I also want to thank my Affairs Czar, Jasmin, without her, I would not be able to do any of this!!! It is through her hard work behind the scenes that I am made free to do what I need to do as an artist and photographer.

A Few Tips for Better Holiday Pictures:

1. Whenever possible, try not to use the attached flash on your camera! Instead, try alternative lighting in order to produce better images. This might take some trial and error, but in the end, your pictures will be so much nicer and easier on the eyes! Don’t worry if you don’t have fancy umbrella lights; simply use as many lamps as you need to. Also, natural lighting is your friend, so use it if it’s available.

2. Take your time! This may not always be possible with kids, pets, and relatives that have been hitting the egg nog, but try to compose the image versus, “taking,” the shot!

3. Take several pictures. This way, you have a few to choose from versus being stuck with one or two.

4. Plan ahead! Charge/Purchase your batteries, clear or buy a new memory card.

5. The whole family is there and you want a family portrait, but don’t have a photographer or a tripod? No problem! You can create a platform by stacking boxes/books on a chair or table and setting your camera on top of it; just make sure that you have a flat and stable surface. Now simply set your timer, and have that designated, “runner,” go back and forth several times to reset the timer in order to take several images. Don’t forget your alternative light sources!!!

This has been a fantastic year for Ruby Spring Photography, and I am confident as we move into the next year, that things will only continue to grow and flourish from here. Here’s to 2011, have a wonderful time with your family and loved ones, and we will see you all in 2012!!! Merry Christmas!!!

~Patricia Jade

This is, “Cassie,” and she is a very beautiful girl that is still currently waiting for her “fur-ever” home. She is blind, but as I watched her go along the grass on her leash, I couldn’t help but smile because her dog instincts kicked in and she instantaneously was simply living in the moment. My sadness for her condition waived away as I was reminded about the Persistence of Hope and of the inspiration for the project! Hope, like our four legged-heroine here, has an unrelenting manner about it. While appearances may seem bleak and downright sad, give hope just a little patch of grass to play in and it will thrive! To persevere against the odds and to find joy in a little sidewalk of dry grass…this is the stuff that heroes are made of!
