COURAGE.

What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?
~Vincent Van Gogh

I am caught up in a whirlwind of activity! This is our first ever auction/fundraiser and very quickly, my Affairs Czar and I are finding out just how much work it takes to get this going! Anyhoo, I just wanted to mention that very soon, I will have my very own server for my blog as well as a whole new website! That’s right; Ruby Spring Photography will focus on the basis of dreams, whimsy, and flight of the imagination! While it seems like a never ending sea of deadlines and juggling acts, very soon J and I will be unveiling some cool stuff for y’all to see!
Now, I do have some actual dates to post:
*November 27th is National Support Small Businesses Day and therefore, we have decided that there is no better day to start our auction than this day. The auction will last for 1 week. (11/27-12/4)
*December 11th afternoon we will have a photo shoot on location. I am very excited about this one! I am running with the idea of, “Kitschy Couture,” and I am envisioning a lot of color and props and whimsy! (Models have already been contacted)
*December 11th at night, we will be having a test run that evening for business related stuff. (Thank you in advance to those that are participating to this event.)

Oh Violet

An Artist's Life...

Well folks, it may not look like it as of yet, but the life of Ruby Spring Photography as we know it is changing as we speak. I have made the decision to dedicate RSP to my special project/new endeavor. I have spent a long time preparing, learning, observing, and yes, even shying away from inquiries and propositions for purposes that are my own…but I now feel that it is time to step out and start accepting these requests and such. At any rate, this weekend, Affairs Czar and I will be getting together in order to prepare for our very first ever RSP Fundraiser/Auction as I have mentioned previously! I have always known that starting my own biz would be a lot of work, but knowing that never truly prepares you!
Also, I wanted to do a quick overview of the events that we have planned for RSP over these next few weeks: We will have the Auction/Fundraiser up and running in as little as 1 or 2 weeks, We will have a test run event for the new biz, and a couple of photo shoots are in the works for December 11th. Did I mention that I also have to find time to finish up my semester at school (including my HUGE final project for color theory *YIKES*) and grow and establish a photography biz from the ground up!

Thank You

A Note From Patricia...

Below are some pictures from our recent photo shoot at Hotel Icon. We were privileged to have had The Presidential Penthouse Suite to have as our studio that night and I couldn’t have asked for a better location! I literally had the entire Downtown Houston skyline at my beckon call! While this was a wonderful and amazing session, and I cannot express how much I appreciate the outpouring of support that I have received from the pictures, I did get some questions about the nature of the images that I feel I should touch on. As an artist, I believe it is important to try different things and to explore different aspects of creativity…sometimes this means allowing your models to play and let them take on their characters and see what happens. Every shoot is a learning experience, and like every other one that has occurred before this and like the ones that will follow, I have, did, and will continue to learn and grown as an artist and as an expressionist. It is never my intent to push my agenda upon others, primarily because I create on an aesthetic and personal level. I create for myself. I express what I need to express at the time that I need to express it. This being said, I prefer to be tasteful rather than obscene and subtle nuances rather than blatant in your face grotesque is more my style…unless we’re talking kitschy rubber ducky armies! To make a long story short, (since I tend to be long winded) artists need to grow and change (at least in learning new things) or else risk growing stale. Art = Expression

There is quite a bit going on at RSP these days! First, let me say that we are working diligently on several things that will completely change Ruby Spring as you know it! As you can guess, I am not yet at liberty to say it, but I will say that we are coming to a place where RSP will no longer simply be a portfolio! I will also say that we will be hosting yet another function next month, and that will be a fundraiser at The Chocolate Bar©. This will coincide with an auction that we are also going to hold that will take place as early as 2 or 3 weeks from now! Proceeds from these events will go towards supplies and equipment for RSP (details soon) as well as to Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch© (www.crystalpeaksyouthanch.org) which is an establishment that rescues abused and neglected horses and brings them together with abused and neglected kids and together they heal. For now, we are asking for everybody to bear with us as we are getting things in order and organized, for great things are in store and we cannot wait to unveil what we are working on for the world to see!
